This year Kultur Voice Business recommends four titles that offer distinctly different viewing experiences, from workplace comedy to relationship drama and historical mystery, to celebrate and enjoy Chuseok (추석). Chuseok is one of Korea’s most significant holidays, traditionally associated with family gatherings, gratitude, and taking a break from everyday routines. Here are, for movie lovers, the selection of highly anticipated Korean films to cinemas.
1. The Intern (인턴)
Genre: Comedy, Drama | Release: September 16, 2026
Directed by Kim Do-young, The Intern follows an older man who joins a rapidly growing fashion startup as an intern, led by a young entrepreneur whose company has achieved remarkable success. Starring Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee, the film explores the unexpected relationship between two generations navigating ambition, work, and changing ideas about success. A fun fact: the Korean film is a remake of the 2015 Hollywood film The Intern, starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.
2. Possible Love (가능한 사랑)
Genre: Drama, Romance | Release: September 23, 2026
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Lee Chang-dong, Possible Love brings together two married couples whose lives become intertwined through a documentary project. As their relationships encounter hidden desires and emotional tensions, the film explores love, marriage, class, and human connection. It marks Lee Chang-dong’s first feature film in eight years following Burning (2018), with an ensemble cast including Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong. The film also represents South Korea’s official submission for the 99th Academy Awards’ Best International Feature category.
3. Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub
Genre: Crime, Drama | Release: September 23, 2026
The fourth installment in the Tazza series follows Jang Tae-young, an online casino entrepreneur who seemingly has everything—until his former best friend, Park Tae-young, takes it all away. Their reunion on the international poker circuit sets the stage for a high-stakes battle of revenge. Directed by Choi Kook-hee, the film stars Byun Yo-han and Roh Jae-won.
4. The Assassin(s) (암살자들)
Genre: Crime, Drama, History, Mystery & Thriller | Release: September 23, 2026
Set against South Korea’s turbulent 1970s, The Assassin(s) investigates the mystery surrounding the 1974 shooting that killed First Lady Yuk Young-soo. The story follows a detective and two journalists as they question the official account and pursue clues surrounding the incident. Directed by Hur Jin-ho, the film features Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho.
With four films spanning comedy, romance, crime, and historical mystery, this year’s Chuseok lineup offers something for different moods. Whether you are looking for something lighthearted or a story that stays with you long after the credits, the holiday is a fitting time to discover what Korean cinema has to offer.
Wishing Koreans enjoy Chuseok holiday!
