On 7 October 2026, the United Nations (UN), Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), and the Indonesian Employers Association (Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO)) launched the Indonesia Country Platform under the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance. The initiative, titled “Unlocking Private Capital for SDGs: Scaling Blended Finance and Strategic Investments through the Indonesia Country Platform”, aims to connect Indonesia’s development priorities with financing, capital, and investment opportunities. It brings together the government, businesses, investors, financial institutions, development finance institutions, and other stakeholders to strengthen cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals.
The launch of Indonesia Country Platform is particularly important because Indonesia faces a significant financing gap in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The financing gap is estimated to reach US$1.7 trillion by 2030. Therefore, mobilizing private-sector resources is essential to complement public financing. The platform provides a mechanism for translating development priorities into concrete financing strategies and bankable projects that can attract investment. According to Bappenas, collaboration between different stakeholders needs to result in practical, scalable financing initiatives that create a real impact on sustainable development.
The private sector plays an important role in this initiative because businesses contribute more than financial capital. They also bring expertise, networks, solutions, and investment opportunities that can be developed into project pipelines. Through the Country Platform, these resources can be connected with national development priorities while strengthening cooperation between businesses, investors, governments, and financial institutions.
One example of this approach is Indonesia Seaweed Incorporated (ISI), which has been developed as a strategic project pipeline under the Country Platform. ISI aims to serve as an ecosystem enabler by bringing together businesses, financial institutions, conservation organizations, local communities, and other stakeholders to develop an inclusive and sustainable seaweed value chain. APINDO has also established partnerships with organizations such as Standard Chartered, Conservation International, Konservasi Indonesia, and YKAN to support the development of a sustainable seaweed industry.
The Indonesia Country Platform represents an important effort to transform global commitments on development financing into concrete opportunities within Indonesia. By connecting public and private stakeholders and developing projects that are suitable for investment, the platform has the potential to help mobilize greater resources for sustainable development and turn investment opportunities into tangible benefits for Indonesian society.
