Celebrate Culture at MACAN Museum

“The works that I present in the exhibition ‘Your Curious Journey’ have traveled a long distance to arrive in Jakarta. These works come from different locations and reflect a diverse range of moments in my three decades of practice. Each work contains traces of its creation process, including the challenges that shaped it into the form you see today, where they contain a blend of intentions, interpretations, and contexts, as well as interact with the unique conditions of this exhibition. At MACAN, these works are arranged in a new configuration that is different from before, including a number of works that have never been shown in this edition of the exhibition anywhere else.” Olafur Eliasson.

Rich art connoisseurs in Indonesia get the opportunity to see ‘Olafur Eliasson: Your curious journey’, which features the main themes of the work of Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson over the past three decades, in various mediums such as installations, paintings, and sculptures.

Exhibited at Museum MACAN from 29 November 2025 to 12 April 2026, ‘Olafur Eliasson: Your curious journey’ is part of an Asia Pacific tour, which has been exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, and Taipei Fine Arts Museum before arriving at Museum MACAN, Jakarta and will end at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Manila.

The exhibition ‘Olafur Eliasson: Your curious journey’ invites visitors to pause and reconnect, not only with themselves, but also with the museum and the world around them. Eliasson encourages us to see with new perspectives, open up space for uncertainty that sparks curiosity, and renew the way we see and live our lives. A reminder that small efforts can create a chain effect that forms an ongoing story. Your Curious Journey offers a privileged opportunity to witness how nature communicates through its signs and signals.

Olafur Eliasson’s works combine natural elements, light, color, and movement to increase our awareness of the environment. Eliasson’s works come to life through the direct engagement of visitors, and invite us to consider the way we perceive and interact with the familiar things around us.

Eliasson’s work also reminds us that we are not separate entities from nature; rather, it is part of a large, interconnected ecosystem, in which each element has an important role.

“We are honored to be able to present Olafur Eliasson’s transformative exhibition, Your curious journey, to the public in Jakarta. An invitation for visitors to engage deeply with nature, color, light, and elements that invite us to rethink the role of humans in the process of world formation, perception, and ecological relations. This exhibition affirms the strong bond between art and ecological thinking that resonates across cultures, inviting us to take responsibility, understand our boundaries and strengthen our relationship with nature.” Venus Lau, Director, Museum MACAN.
